Far Off-Shore
By Herman Melville
Look, the raft, a signal flying,
Thin--a shred;
None upon the lashed spars lying,
Quick or dead.
Cries the sea-fowl, hovering over,
"Crew, the crew?"
And the billow, reckless, rover,
Sweeps anew!
